WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IN BARCELONA

Film wedding photographer based in Barcelona. A decade of Mediterranean light, Kodak Portra, and knowing exactly where to stand.

Barcelona is one of Europe's finest cities for a wedding — and after a decade of photographing here, I know it in a way only a working photographer can. I know that the Gothic Quarter light shifts completely between 8am and 10am. I know which courtyard at Masia Cabellut catches the last golden hour. I know the exact window at Santa Maria del Mar where the afternoon sun hits the aisle.

I shoot exclusively on analog film — Kodak Portra 400 for the warm Barcelona light, Portra 800 for the late receptions, Ilford Delta when a moment calls for black and white. My work takes me from the cobblestone streets of the Gothic Quarter to vineyard estates in Penedès and the golden coast of Sitges.

Whether it's a grand multi-day celebration at a countryside masia or an intimate elopement in El Born, I bring the same thing to every wedding: a decade of knowing this city's light, a bag of medium format cameras, and the patience to wait for the moment that matters. A REAL BARCELONA WEDDING: THREE DAYS AT MASIA CABELLUT

A rehearsal dinner by the sea. A vineyard ceremony in the Catalan hills. A sun-drenched pool party to close the weekend. This is what a Barcelona destination wedding looks like when you have three days and the right light.

When K&M chose Barcelona for their celebration, they wanted more than a single day — they wanted an experience their guests would never forget. It began on the beach in Sitges, where golden hour cocktails and Mediterranean breezes set the tone for the weekend ahead.

The following day brought us to Masia Cabellut — a stunning vineyard estate in the hills near Barcelona. After an intimate first look in the masia's courtyard, their outdoor ceremony unfolded against a backdrop of rolling vineyards and olive groves. As the evening light softened, we stole away for couple portraits among the vines before their guests gathered for dinner under string lights and open sky.

On the final morning, everyone came together one last time — poolside, with pizza, sunshine, and the kind of relaxed laughter that only happens when the pressure is off and the love is still in the air. These unscripted moments, captured on film, are some of my favourites from the entire weekend.

She captured so many breathtaking images, ones I will be eternally grateful for. I will never forget her magical touch. Our wedding day was everything I dreamed of and more, but having these images to keep forever is truly the greatest gift. I'm so incredibly grateful to Olya — the photos were even more beautiful than I ever imagined. For any bride seeking reassurance, I could not recommend her more.

Having seen her airy and light photos, as well as natural and candid ones, I knew she was the photographer for us. We don't like taking photos nor being the center of attention, yet she made us feel so comfortable and relaxed.

WHY BARCELONA FOR YOUR WEDDING

I've been photographing weddings in Barcelona for over a decade, and I still find new light here. The city rewards photographers who know it — who know that the Born district glows differently in June than in October, that Montjuïc catches the last light before anywhere else, that the best portraits happen in places most photographers walk past.

When we work together, I plan your photography timeline down to the minute — which venues have shade at midday, where the golden hour hits hardest, how to move between locations without hitting crowds on the Rambla. You get a photographer who doesn't need to scout your venue the morning of, because I've already shot there.

Iconic Barcelona Locations for Wedding & Engagement Photography

One of the things couples love most about Barcelona is the variety of photography locations within a short distance. Here are some of my favourite spots — for weddings, engagement sessions, and couple portraits:

THE GOTHIC QUARTER.: The narrow medieval streets, ancient stone arches, and quiet plazas of the Gothic Quarter create a romantic atmosphere that photographs beautifully on film. I shoot here almost exclusively before 10am — the early morning light filtering through the alleyways is soft, directional, and gone by midday.

PARK GUELL: Gaudí's iconic mosaic terraces overlooking the city are instantly recognisable and full of colour. I recommend shooting here at opening time — the light is soft, the crowds are thin, and the mosaics glow rather than glare.

EL BORN & LA RIBERA: Less crowded than the Gothic Quarter but equally charming, El Born offers cobblestone streets, iron balconies, and the stunning Santa Maria del Mar basilica — one of Barcelona's most popular ceremony venues for destination weddings.

MONTJUÏC & THE NATIONAL ART MUSEUM (MNAC): For couples who want grand, cinematic shots, the sweeping staircase and panoramic city views from MNAC are some of the most cinematic frames you can get in Barcelona. Golden hour here runs roughly 7–8pm in summer — and the light hits the stone steps in a way Kodak Portra was made for.

SITGES: Just 30 minutes south of Barcelona, his coastal town is one of my favourite locations for weddings and engagement sessions. The whitewashed streets, seaside promenades, and golden afternoon light feel like a different world from the city — and it's only 30 minutes away.

COSTA BRAVA: Just an hour north of Barcelona, the Costa Brava coastline — from Tossa de Mar to Cadaqués — offers dramatic cliffs, turquoise water, and some of the most beautiful wedding venues in Catalonia. The light along this coast is different from the city: cleaner, sharper, with the kind of sea-reflected glow that makes Kodak Portra sing. I've photographed at El Convent de Blanes, Castell d'Empordà, and private villas along the coast.

THE CATALAN COUNTRY SIDE: Masias & Vineyards Some of Barcelona's most beautiful wedding venues are the historic masias (farmhouses) in the surrounding countryside. These offer stone courtyards, olive groves, and vineyard views — and the light inside a masia courtyard in the late afternoon is some of the most flattering you'll find anywhere in Catalonia.

Wedding Venues I Know and Love in Barcelona

These are the Barcelona and Catalonia venues I know inside and out — where the light falls, which corners photograph best, and what time of day each space comes alive:

Masia Cabellut — A stunning countryside estate near Sitges, perfect for multi-day celebrations. Stone arches, courtyards, and vineyard views.

Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar — One of Barcelona's most stunning ceremony venues — the afternoon light through the rose window is extraordinary on film. Located in the heart of El Born.

El Convent de Blanes — A clifftop venue on the Costa Brava perched above turquoise Mediterranean waters. Former convent grounds with dramatic sea views, lush pine gardens, and an atmosphere that feels both grand and intimate.

W Hotel Barcelona — Modern luxury overlooking the Mediterranean. Ideal for couples who want a cosmopolitan, beachfront celebration.

Gran Villa Rosa — A stunning Mediterranean estate near Barcelona with lush gardens, a poolside ceremony setting, and vibrant Spanish character. See Gillian & Chris' colorful summer wedding here.

Castell d'Empordà — One of the most photogenic venues in Catalonia — the late afternoon light across the olive groves here is remarkable.

Mas Rosset — A romantic olive grove estate near Girona, surrounded by the breathtaking Garrotxa mountains. Intimate, personal, and utterly Catalan in character.

La Baronia — An elegant estate in the Penedès wine region. The panoramic vineyard views at sunset are some of the best backdrop light I've found in all of Catalonia.

If you already have a venue in mind, I'd be happy to share location-specific advice for photography timing and portraits. And if you're still searching, I can recommend venues that match your style and guest count.

Engagement Sessions & Couple Portraits in Barcelona

Barcelona is also where I do some of my favourite engagement work. Whether you're visiting for a proposal, celebrating a honeymoon, or want portraits of the two of you somewhere beautiful — I know this city's best spots at every time of day.

I shoot most engagement sessions entirely on film, creating a set of images with a soft, nostalgic quality that feels like flipping through a European photo album. Sessions typically last 1.5–2 hours and include a relaxed walk through one or two of Barcelona's most photogenic neighbourhoods.

Film Photography in Barcelona

Barcelona's Mediterranean light is one of the reasons I fell in love with this city — and it's also the reason film photography works so beautifully here. The warm, golden tones of Kodak Portra are made for the honey-coloured stone of the Gothic Quarter and the soft evening light along the coast.

I photograph using a hybrid approach: medium format film for portraits and key moments, paired with digital for fast-paced moments and low-light situations. This gives you the timeless aesthetic of film with the reliability and coverage of digital. Engagement and intimate sessions are usually captured 100% on film.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a Barcelona wedding photographer? Most couples book 6–9 months before their wedding date, especially for peak season (May–October). I shoot a limited number of weddings per year to give each couple my full attention, so I recommend reaching out as early as possible.

Do you travel beyond Barcelona for weddings? Absolutely. While Barcelona is my home base, I regularly photograph weddings across Spain — including Mallorca, Costa Brava, Seville, Toledo, and Madrid — as well as destination weddings in Portugal, France, Italy, and the rest of Europe.

What does a Barcelona wedding photography collection include? The Intimate Collection starts at €3,800. Most couples invest between €6,500 and €10,000 for comprehensive coverage of their celebration.
