Italy does not need to be explained. It is the most romantic country in the world — not because anyone decided it should be, but because every corner of it seems designed for people in love. The light in Positano at six in the evening. A private terrace above Portofino harbour. The rolling hills of Tuscany turning gold in late September. A gondola on a quiet Venetian canal before the crowds arrive.
I am Olya Kobruseva, a fine art film photographer based in Barcelona. I travel to Italy regularly throughout the year to photograph destination weddings, honeymoon sessions, elopements, and marriage proposals — from the Amalfi Coast to the Ligurian Riviera, from Tuscany to Sicily. Every session is shot on medium format analog film, giving your images a warmth and timelessness that feels completely at home in the Italian light.
If you are planning a wedding, honeymoon, or proposal in Italy and want photographs that will feel as alive in thirty years as they do today — I would love to hear from you.
The Amalfi Coast — Honeymoon & Proposal Photography in Positano and Ravello
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed coastlines in the world — and for good reason. The pastel-coloured houses of Positano cascading down to the sea, the clifftop gardens of Ravello, the winding coastal road with its extraordinary views: all of it is cinematic on film in a way that no digital camera fully captures.
I recommend visiting the Amalfi Coast in April–June or September– October. The light is softer, the crowds are thinner, and the colours of the coast are at their most vivid. For proposals and couple sessions in Positano, I advise either early morning — before 8am, when the beach and harbour are still quiet — or booking a private boat to get the iconic Positano backdrop without the summer crowds appearing in your photographs.
For an elevated stay, Le Sirenuse in Positano and Palazzo Avino in Ravello both have terraces that photograph beautifully on film and can be booked privately for proposal setups. I work with wedding planners across the Amalfi Coast and can help coordinate logistics if needed.

Capri — Iconic Proposal & Couple Photography on the Island
Capri is not subtle. It is glamorous, sun-drenched, and completely itself — the kind of island that has been attracting lovers since the Roman emperors built villas on its cliffs. For proposals and honeymoon sessions, it remains one of the most requested locations I photograph in Italy.
The most effective way to experience Capri as a couple — and to get the most extraordinary photographs — is by private boat. Circumnavigating the island gives you access to the hidden coves, the dramatic sea stacks of the Faraglioni, and the translucent blue of the water in a way that no land-based session can match. It also means complete privacy — no crowds, no strangers in the background, just the two of you and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
For sessions on land, the Gardens of Augustus offer elevated views over the Faraglioni that are extraordinary at golden hour. I recommend arriving in Capri by early morning ferry and beginning the session before 9am — the island transforms completely once the day-trippers arrive.

Portofino & the Italian Riviera — Honeymoon Photography in Liguria
Portofino is the most beautiful harbour in Italy. I will not qualify that statement — the ochre and terracotta facades reflected in the still green water of the port, the cypress-covered hills rising behind, the quiet elegance of a place that has been loved by discerning travellers for over a century. It photographs on film with an extraordinary richness.
For proposals in Portofino, Castello Brown is my first recommendation — a historic castle above the harbour with a private terrace that can be booked exclusively. The view over the port and the Ligurian Sea is unmatched, and the stone archways and gardens offer extraordinary backdrops for couple portraits. Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, is the ideal base — positioned right in the heart of the village.

For couples with more time, the coastal villages of Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure are 20 minutes east and offer a more intimate, local atmosphere. Camogli in particular — with its extraordinary painted facades and tiny fishing harbour — is one of the most beautiful places I have ever photographed on film.
Tuscany is where most couples first imagine their Italian wedding. The rolling hills, the cypress avenues, the honey-coloured stone farmhouses, the vineyards at harvest time — it is a landscape that was made for celebration, and it photographs on film with a warmth and depth that is unlike anywhere else in Europe.
Florence at sunset is one of the most extraordinary photography locations in the world. The light turns the Arno and the Renaissance facades a deep amber gold, and from the right rooftop terrace — several of which can be booked privately for proposals and intimate sessions — the city feels entirely yours. For couples combining a Florence proposal with a Tuscany wedding weekend, the Piazzale Michelangelo at dawn is a location I return to repeatedly on film.
For destination weddings and elopements in the Tuscan countryside, Borgo Santo Pietro near Siena is among the finest venues I know — a luxury estate surrounded by organic gardens and vineyards, with a quality of afternoon light that makes every frame feel like a painting. The hilltop towns of Montepulciano and San Gimignano offer extraordinary locations for intimate couple sessions.

Venice — Elopement & Proposal Photography in the Floating City
Venice is the only city in the world that improves the earlier you wake up. By 6am in the off-season, the calli are empty, the canals are still, and the light on the water is extraordinary. This is when I photograph in Venice — before the city belongs to anyone else.
For proposals, the private rooftop terraces overlooking the Grand Canal or the lagoon offer a level of intimacy that the public squares cannot. San Marco's Basilica and the Palazzo Ducale as a backdrop at golden hour, photographed from a terrace above the crowds, is one of the most beautiful things I have captured on film. Venice is also one of my favourite locations for elopements — small, intimate, utterly private — with the city itself as the ceremony backdrop.
My practical advice: visit in November–March or in September for the best light and fewest crowds. A water taxi from Marco Polo airport at dawn, arriving to a still and quiet city, is one of the great travel experiences — and the first frame of your Venice session.

Sicily & Taormina — Honeymoon Photography in the South
Sicily is my favourite Italian island. I will be completely direct about that. There is a rawness and warmth to it — the volcanic landscapes, the Greek temples, the extraordinary food, the open-hearted people — that does not exist anywhere else in the Mediterranean. And Taormina, perched above the sea with Etna visible on clear days, is one of the most dramatically beautiful towns I have ever photographed.
For honeymoon sessions in Taormina, the ancient Greek Theatre at dawn — before the tourist groups arrive — offers a backdrop of extraordinary scale and beauty. The narrow streets of the historic centre, the panoramic terrace of the public gardens, and the funicular down to the beach at Isola Bella all offer distinct atmospheres and lighting conditions that I know well on film.
For couples with more time, the Aeolian Islands — Stromboli, Panarea, Salina — are among the most unspoilt and romantic destinations in all of Italy. A sailing week between the islands, with photography sessions at each stop, is something I offer for adventurous couples who want something truly exceptional.

Book Your Destination Wedding or Honeymoon Photographer in Italy
Italy is where I do some of my most personally meaningful work. The light, the culture, the extraordinary depth of beauty in every region — it brings out something in couples that I rarely see elsewhere. People slow down. They stop performing for the camera and start simply being together. And those are always the best photographs.
I travel from Barcelona to Italy regularly throughout the year and photograph a limited number of destination weddings, elopements, honeymoon sessions, and proposals each season. My work in Italy has been featured in Wedding Sparrow and French Wedding Style. If you are planning something in Italy and want analog film photography that captures it with intention and artistry — I would love to hear your story.
Frequently Asked Questions: Wedding & Honeymoon Photography in Italy
Do you travel from Barcelona to Italy for weddings and sessions?
Yes. I am based in Barcelona and travel to Italy regularly — Barcelona to Milan or Rome is a short flight, and I cover all regions from Liguria and Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast and Sicily. Travel is included in my Italy collections.
What is the best time of year for photography in Italy?
May–June and September–October offer the most beautiful light across all Italian regions — warm, golden, and soft without the intense heat of July and August. Venice and Tuscany are particularly magical in early autumn.
Do you shoot proposals and honeymoon sessions as well as weddings?
Yes. Proposals, honeymoon sessions, anniversary portraits, and elopements are a significant part of my Italy work. Sessions typically last 2–3 hours and are shot entirely on analog film.
Which Italian region is best for a destination wedding?
It depends entirely on the atmosphere you want. Tuscany for rolling hills and vineyard estates. The Amalfi Coast for dramatic coastal glamour. Portofino for intimate Riviera elegance. Venice for an unforgettable elopement. Sicily for raw, sun-drenched beauty. I am happy to advise based on your vision and guest count.
