Mallorca Engagement Photographer — Olive Groves & Golden Light on Analog Film
Mallorca Is Unlike Anywhere Else in the Mediterranean
There is a particular quality to summer light in Mallorca. It falls differently through ancient olive trees than it does anywhere else — warm and dappled, turning everything it touches gold. The island moves slowly. The air smells of rosemary and pine and the sea. The fincas have stood for centuries. The calas are still wild and impossibly blue.
Mallorca has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Europe for engagements, elopements and destination weddings — and it is easy to understand why. It is romantic in the most effortless, unforced way. You do not need to try here. You simply arrive, and the island does the rest.
I am Olya Kobruseva, a fine art film photographer based in Barcelona, travelling regularly to Mallorca for private engagement and elopement sessions. Every photograph I take on this island is shot on analog film — and in the summer light of Mallorca, film looks extraordinary. Warm grain, rich colour, a softness that feels like memory.
If you are planning an engagement session, honeymoon shoot or elopement in Mallorca — this is what it can look like.
Among the Olive Trees — A Mallorca Engagement Session on Film
This session happened the way the best ones always do — naturally, unhurriedly, with nowhere to be and nothing to prove.
Kori and Andreu invited me to stay with them at their bungalow in Mallorca for a few days before their wedding. We had first met years earlier in Berlin, and there was already an ease and warmth between us that you simply cannot manufacture. On the morning of the session we walked out into the olive grove surrounding the property as the sun climbed and the cicadas started — and that was it. No elaborate setup. No imported props. Just the two of them, the ancient trees, and the summer light of Mallorca doing what it does.
Ancient olive trees make extraordinary backdrops for film photography. The gnarled silver trunks, the soft dappled shade, the warm earth tones — analog renders all of it with a richness and depth that digital cannot match. These photographs do not look staged. They look like a perfect summer morning that actually happened, preserved exactly as it felt.
Why Mallorca Is One of Europe's Most Beautiful Destinations for Engagement Photography
Mallorca offers something rare for a popular destination — genuine diversity of landscape within a small island. In a single day you can move from ancient olive groves and stone fincas in the interior, to the dramatic cliffs of the Tramuntana mountains, to hidden coves with water the colour of aquamarine. Every setting photographs differently, and every one is extraordinary on film.
These are the locations I return to again and again for engagement sessions in Mallorca:
ANCIENT OLIVE GROVES — the interior of Mallorca is covered in centuries-old olive trees whose silver trunks and dappled shade create the most naturally beautiful backdrops on the island. Morning light here is incomparable.
TRADITIONAL FINCAS — the stone farmhouses of Mallorca's countryside, with their golden walls, terracotta tiles and wild gardens, give engagement sessions a timeless, romantic quality that is uniquely Mallorcan.
SERRA DE TRAMUNTANA — the UNESCO-listed mountain range that runs along the northwest coast offers dramatic clifftop views, ancient villages and extraordinary light at golden hour.
HIDDEN CALAS— Mallorca's secret coves are some of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. Turquoise water, limestone cliffs, and pine trees right to the water's edge. Perfect for couples who want something wild and private.
DEIA AND VALLDEMOSSA — the most romantic villages on the island, beloved by artists and writers for centuries. Stone streets, bougainvillea, mountain views. Magical on film.
I plan every session around your dates, your vision, and the light. Get in touch and we will design your perfect Mallorca day together.
