FILM WEDDING AT MASIA CABELLUT, BARCELONA

Abby & Justin — a vineyard wedding on Kodak Portra & Fuji Pro 400 in the Catalan hills

Masia Cabellut is the venue I know best. A 17th-century stone farmhouse surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and the gentle hills of the Catalan countryside — about an hour south of Barcelona, just inland from Sitges. I have photographed two weddings here now, and each time I return I understand this place more deeply: how the morning light enters through the stone courtyard, where the afternoon shadows fall across the vines, which corner of the estate glows at golden hour.

Abby and Justin's wedding was the day that taught me this venue. They came from America with their closest people and built a celebration that was equal parts elegant and joyful — the kind of wedding where the florals are exquisite and the speeches make everyone cry and the dance floor is chaos by 10pm. The ceremony took place outdoors, beneath the trees, with the vineyard stretching behind them and the late afternoon light turning everything to gold. It was sincere and emotional — Abby's father walking her down the aisle, Justin's face when he saw her, the quiet moment after the vows when they stood together and the guests were still catching their breath.

I shot the entire day on medium format film — Contax 645 loaded with Kodak Portra 400, switching to Portra 800 as the evening set in. The afternoon light at Masia Cabellut is extraordinary on Portra: the warm ochre tones in the stone, the deep green of the vines, the soft glow on skin as golden hour spreads across the estate. And when the reception moved into the courtyard — candles lit, the stone walls catching the warm tungsten light, wine glasses reflecting the glow — Portra 800 captured the kind of warmth and intimacy that flash photography could never touch.

What makes Masia Cabellut special is that it never feels like a "venue." It feels like someone's home — a very beautiful, very old home, where the imperfections in the stone and the wildness of the gardens make every frame look like it was discovered rather than designed. The couple portraits among the vines, the first dance under the open sky, the quiet details on the morning dressing table — all of it felt natural, unhurried, and completely theirs.

If you are considering Masia Cabellut for your wedding — or any vineyard estate in Catalonia — I would love to bring the same knowledge and care to your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Masia Cabellut and where is it located? A: Masia Cabellut is a luxury wedding venue set among vineyards in the Penedès wine region, approximately 45 minutes from Barcelona. It offers outdoor ceremony spaces, elegant dining areas, and on-site accommodation — ideal for intimate destination weddings in Spain.

Q: Why choose a film wedding photographer in Barcelona? A: Film photography produces a warmth, depth, and grain that digital cameras cannot replicate. The limited number of frames per roll means every shot is intentional, resulting in a gallery that feels curated rather than overwhelming. Barcelona's Mediterranean light is particularly stunning on film — the golden tones and soft shadows translate beautifully on Kodak Portra and Fuji 400H.

Q: How far in advance should I book a wedding photographer in Barcelona? A: Most couples reach out 8–14 months before their wedding date. For peak season (May through October), booking 12+ months ahead is recommended as Barcelona is one of Europe's most popular destination wedding cities.

Q: Do you travel for destination weddings outside Barcelona? A: Yes. While based in Barcelona, I photograph destination weddings throughout Spain (including Mallorca, Ibiza, Seville, and the Costa Brava), as well as across Europe — France, Italy, Portugal, and beyond.

Q: What film stocks do you shoot with? A: I primarily work with Kodak Portra 400 and Portra 160 for their beautiful skin tones and warm color palette. For ceremony and reception moments in lower light, I may use Kodak Portra 800. All film is professionally developed and scanned by Carmencita Film Lab.
