As a fine-art photographer in Spain, I may have a certain love affair with the South of Spain.  It's an idyllic place for romantic proposals, engagement sessions, luxurious elopements and picture-perfect honeymoons.

With its rich culture, gorgeous Mediterranean climate, and abundance of romantic cities, Spain offers everything a couple could want for a honeymoon destination. Beautiful landscapes and beaches, picturesque architecture, breathtaking nature, and incredible gastronomy are just a few things to look forward to. It sounds like a perfect romantic escape, doesn't it?

No surprise that some couples even elope there too and have all their celebrations in one place.  Still keeping its raw untouched heritage Spain has so much to offer for couples who look for unique experience whether it's honeymoon trip or a destination wedding.

From the orange trees and colourful tiles in Seville to the gorgeous picturesque Alhambra views in Granada, South of Spain offers everything you could ever want - tapas anyone?! Olya Kobruseva wedding photographer in Spain traveled to Seville and Granada  recently and is here to report on the best times to go, to stay and elope.

The air is scented with sweet oranges in a city where, at every turn, one uncovers fascinating history and heritage of the capital of Andalucia. All this is combined with five-star hotels full of character – ranging from a palace built for a king to an ultra-modern skyscraper.

One of the best ways to enjoy and experience Seville is alfresco. Starting your day with the morning walk along the splendid crescent-shaped Plaza de Espana. Here you will dive into plenty  of painted ceramic tiles, curved bridges and grand arches, all surrounding a monumental central fountain. As the sun rises, you will definitely enjoy the beautiful light, take a leisurely walk around the square, looking at each tile and still enjoying the morning coolness. For the most romantic couples, I recommend renting a boat to sail under each bridge in this square and try to decide which one is the most beautiful after all.

If you are considering adding engagement or proposal pictures to your pre-wedding to-do list, make it a bucket list situation and have them taken in Seville. You will get to see the sights. eat delicious food  AND walk away with a collection of elegant engagement photos to use as you wish.

Around midday you'll feel the hot air of Seville, making it the perfect time to retreat to the Hotel Alfonso XIII's cool patio. Built specially for Seville’s 1929 Expo, this majestic establishment was commissioned by the then king of Spain, who gave it his own name.

If you're planning an elopement or a proposal in Seville, I highly recommend choosing this hotel for its private tower with stunning views of the city where the dreamy "I do!" will be accompanied by the best backdrop of Seville and a private dinner.

One of the best ways to pass the rest of the day is to get lost in the tiny streets around the cathedral or from above in a terrace bar while grazing on the local tapas and sipping sangria.

Unique venues in Seville

If you want to dive into the royal gardens and patios you can't imagine your honeymoon and trip to Seville without seeing Real Alcazar and Casa de Pilatos.

The Real Alcazar is located in the center of the historical part of Seville, making it an ideal place to relax if the heat hits you in the afternoon. Temperatures in Seville are incredibly high in summer, so its  gardens are a real escape whether you want to stroll through the patios and gardens or take magical photos of your honeymoon in Seville.

As you walk deeper through the streets of Seville—that behind the narrow walls lies an elegant palace that is the result of multiple stylistic influences, in addition to gardens conceived as authentic orchards.

Casa de Pilatos: a little piece of Italy in the historic centre of Seville. It's absolutely unique, tranquil and fascinating.  If you’ve been dreaming of a romantic and elegant wedding in the heart of Seville, then look no further than Casa Pilatos. This luxurious venue provides the perfect setting for your special day.  Just imagine an elegant welcome cocktail for the guests in the court yard  with some typical Andalucia flamenco inspired music entertainment for your rehearsal dinner or wedding reception.

As you enter Granada you will be greeted by the most stunning view of the city with its unique Moorish architecture silhouetted against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Granada seems to have been designed for a couple’s getaways. With some of the best views in Spain. Granada tops it all off with its Arabic influenced culture, cuisine and architecture. Sunsets overlooking the Sierra Nevada Mountains are incredibly epic, no matter the season.

Head to the Parador for a romantic al fresco dinner overlooking the Generalife gardens and Alhambra. Here you can enjoy the sunset over a glass of local wine or sangria while listening to a Spanish guitar playing somewhere nearby.

Or choose the Hotel Alhambra Palace, the oldest 5 star hotel in Spain, in business since 1910. This hotel is located in the Alhambra Palace woods and is a short walk from the Palace entrance gates. The city also boasts an abundance of spas and bathhouses inspired by the Al Andalus legacy. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?
