The Gothic Quarter & El Born at golden hour — Kodak Portra 400
This is why I live in Barcelona.
Not for the beaches or the Gaudí or the restaurants everyone already knows about — for this. The Gothic Quarter at golden hour, when the crowds thin and the light drops into the narrow streets and the medieval stone turns the colour of warm bread. There is a ten-minute window when the sun angles between the buildings and illuminates the Cathedral square in a way that makes everything — every face, every shadow, every frame — extraordinary. I have photographed here dozens of times and I still stop and look.
This anniversary session was simple. Two people who wanted to mark a milestone with something lasting — not a party, not a gift, but photographs that feel like the way they see each other. We walked through the Gothic Quarter as the afternoon turned to evening: the narrow alleys behind the Cathedral, the hidden squares where no tourist ever finds, the bridge on Carrer del Bisbe that everyone photographs from below but nobody photographs from above.
I shot everything on Portra 400. The Gothic Quarter on film is one of my favourite things in the world — the warm stone, the deep shadows, the occasional burst of bougainvillea against grey wall. Digital makes these streets look sharp and modern. Film makes them look the way they feel: ancient, layered, full of stories.
